Suspect charged with West Oakland murder of Roberto Guzman

Michael Peau, 22, is charged with the Sept 24 murder of Roberto Guzman in West Oakland

The Alameda County charged a 22-year-old man this afternoon with the fatal shooting of Roberto Guzman on September 24th.

Guzman, 20, was shot to death in front of his house on the 3200 block of Hannah Street in West Oakland shortly before noon that day.

Michael Peau was arrested by the Oakland Police Department’s Major Crimes Section in Mosswood section of North Oakland on the evening of Wednesday, September 28th.

Two firearms were recovered in the course of the investigation. Peau has reportedly denied his involvement in Guzman’s killing.

Peau, 22, was charged with homicide by the Alameda County District Attorney.

West Oakland murder is the 6th in a week

An unidentified man was shot to death in West Oakland last night, marking the city’s sixth murder in a week.

Around 9:17 PM last night, Oakland Police officers arrived at the 1100 block of 24th Street, in between Market and Adeline, in response to gunfire. A 27-year-old Oakland man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was found at the scene and pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Yesterday’s homicide comes hard on the heels of Rodnelle Hampton’s murder in East Oakland on Tuesday. Hampton, a 19-year-old resident of San Leandro, was killed while driving in the 2200 block of A Street. On Monday, 28-year-old Christopher Ingram was shot to death near the Eastmont Mall, and 18-year-old Dionte Freeman was killed in a drive-by shooting that afternoon in Ghost Town.

There have been no arrests in any of the six murders this past week. According to OPD, there have been 51 murders in the city this year, compared to 41 at this point in 2010.

Murder, burglary-turned-rape in West Oakland this morning

A 49-year-old man was found stabbed to death and a 28-year-old woman was raped by a man burglarizing her Apgar Street home in a chaotic morning in West Oakland.

Around 6: 50 AM, Oakland Police officers responded to a report of a person lying inert at the intersection of West Grand Avenue and Wood Street. The officers came across a man suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. The wounded man was taken to Highland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On Thursday, Oakland Police identified the dead man as Marty Harris, an Oakland resident.

Harris’ killing was the 45th this year in Oakland. At this point in 2010, there were 34 murders in the city.

An hour and a half later, a 28-year-old woman was alone at her house in the 900 block of Apgar Street when she was confronted by a man who had broken into her residence. The man, described as in his 40s, standing 5’9″ and weighing 160 pounds, attacked and raped the women before fleeing with various electronic items. The woman was able to take video of the suspect with her cellphone before he fled.
