Causing trouble at the Capitol

While Senator Dianne Feinstein busily toils to defeat the upcoming marijuana legalization measure on November’s ballot, California’s other sitting senator, Barbara Boxer is dealing with her own weed problems. Yesterday, a senior aide to the senator was reportedly arrested for possession when he allegedly tried to sneak a baggie of marijuana out of his pocket before a security screening at the Senate Hart Office Building in D.C. According to POLITICO, the aide took swift action:

“’Marcus Stanley is no longer with this office,’” Boxer spokesman Zachary Coile told POLITICO. “’He submitted his resignation, and Sen. Boxer accepted it because his actions yesterday were wrong and unacceptable.’”

Apparently, marijuana has caused trouble for many on Capitol grounds: according to POLITICO, more than a dozen people have been found with the drug in similar situations. Boxer, incidentally, has come out against California’s Proposition 19. Currently, the senator is in a heated race to defend her seat against challenger Carly Fiorina. They’re polling almost dead even.
