A five-year-old girl was kidnapped this morning, apparently accidentally, during a car theft. A man parked his Cadillac at a gas station, with his daughter in the back seat. When he went inside to pay for the gas, a white van pulled up beside the car and a person jumped into the Cadillac and took off. The girl was found a couple of blocks away unharmed; the Cadillac turned up abandoned later…

The city of Antioch had three shootings this morning. One man, a store clerk shot at work, had non-life-threatening injuries. Another man, walking down the street and shot by a person in a van, died on the scene. A third gunshot victim, circumstances unknown, presented himself at an emergency room this morning with serious injuries. Police do not know if the shootings are related…

Another pit bull biting occurred over the weekend. A seven-year-old Oakland girl had a chunk taken out of her cheek by a neighbor’s pit bull on Saturday. She was treated at the Children’s Hospital; the dog has been quarantined…

A string of violence hit Oakland this weekend, leaving one man dead and two children injured…

A San Jose apartment fire killed an eight-year-old girl visiting from Durham, North Carolina yesterday…

And this morning, a cab hit a pedestrian near San Francisco’s Union Square. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.
